Bhutan, officially known as the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is located at the eastern end of the Himalayan mountains. It shares its southern, eastern, and western borders with India and its northern border with the Tibetan Autonomous Region of the People´s Republic of China. Bhutan is separated from nearby Nepal by the Indian state of Sikkim. The capital city of Bhutan is Thimphu, and it has a population of approximately 780,000 people. The country covers an area of about 38,000 square kilometers.
Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy since 2008, with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck as its reigning monarch.
